It's early in the morning and I'm still half-asleep but it's time for a progress report.
Like the title suggests, we're making progress.I''m going to keep frequent updates to let people know I'm working.
There's also been some changes to the format of Auburn Sunset, so I'll post that here.

Confirmed Features

  • 8 Full-Length Chapters
  • Changing Sprite/Textbox Expressions
  • Fully voiced dialogue
  • CG Cutscenes with subtitles
  • Choices that actually effect conversations
  • Easter Eggs
  • Original Music
  • Menu System
    • Includes a Quest Log, Map and Journal
  • Exploration and item interaction
I think the biggest change from the original plan is definitely the fact Auburn Sunset will be a fully voiced game just like Demon Hunt. I went over the idea a couple times and I realized one of the reasons people really love DH so much is because of the voices. So this time, we're spending the whole (non-existent) budget on getting a full cast to do over another 10000 lines of dialogue. (I'm not even exaggerating)

Possible Features

  • Animated Opening and Ending
  • Petting mini-game
  • Save feature
  • Inventory system
  • Volume options
These were some features I could POSSIBLY include if I really bust myself. The first two are more of a treat than anything, and will probably be uploaded separately from the main game as their own deviations. The last three are under more consideration if Auburn Sunset becomes a downloadable, complete game. I'll get into that in the next section below.

Auburn Sunset... On Steam?

It's early, probably way too early to say, but I've been considering it for a while. Before any of you cry out that you don't have Steam, don't worry. Auburn Sunset will still be uploaded here to deviantart and be free to play with no download like the rest of my flashes.

The reason for possibly pushing Auburn Sunset to be greenlit on Steam would be to help us (as in me and the team who work on AS) finally 'debut' in the indie game scene. Since most of us aren't professionals and this would be our first real 'commercial' release, it'd be something to help put our name out, and of course share the game with a bigger crowd.

And as promised, the game will remain FREE on deviantart and FREE to download from Steam. There will only be a few differences:
  • Steam version will include all 8 chapters in one complete game file
  • Steam version will have full, uncompressed audio and music quality.
    • Due to the 30 MB file size limit on deviantart, I have no choice but to compress my larger flash games. This reduces audio quality noticeably, but it's the only way I can make the games available here.
  • Animated Opening and Ending included in the game file.
Basically, the Steam version would just include the full visual novel as it was meant to be played. Of course, it won't be available until the game is completely 100% done and has been Greenlit and gone through all the paperwork way down the line. But yeah, that'll be years to come. It's just a thought to put out there, so when the time comes, we can gather the support to turn Auburn Sunset into the game it's meant to be.

To wrap it up, we're going full speed ahead working on AS. Voice auditions will be open until the end of July, so if you want to try out, the link is still up:
